Positive Discipline

What is Positive Discipline?

Positive Discipline is the popular worldwide program developed by Dr. Jane Nelsen and is based on the work of the famous Austrian psychotherapists Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs. Some of the key principles of Positive Discipline are belonging, connection, mutual respect, kindness and firmness at the same time, and encouragement. The workshops and trainings focus on and support the learning, growth, and skills of both the adult and the child in the relationship.

One of the gifts of Positive Discipline is the training structure. The workshops are experiential in nature, not delivered as a lecture. The advantage of experiential learning is the learner gets to learn by doing, experiencing, and reflecting. Participants almost always come away with new skills and often, a new perspective. This process reaches the heart, not just the intellect. It’s much more fun than lectures!

Positive Discipline is:

  • A book – the Gold standard reference for grown-ups working with children
  • A philosophy/ theory based on Adlerian theory
  • An experiential process
  • Packed with over 50 parenting tools and skills
  • Is a process of self-awareness and growth

Positive Discipline helps parents move away from punishment and rewards, and guilt and frustration, and moves us toward true connection, problem-solving and respectful relationships. The skills and principles help us all to become the best versions of ourselves!
